A very good, deep class.  Three players (Brice, Ellsworth, Sharper) would be considered among the best ever at their positions.  The talent and depth of this class formed the base for the 1995 team, second best in UVa history.  Perhaps the best overall UVa recruiting class ever?

  • P Will Brice Lancaster HS, Lancaster, SC 6-4 175 -- The best punter in UVa history.  Made All-American in a single game by pinning FSU inside their 10 several times during the all-time classic 33-28 win. +++++
  • DB Percy Ellsworth Southampton HS, Drewry, VA 9 6-3 190 -- Outstanding, instinctive safety.  Like Brice, made himself an All-American in the same game with two interceptions, a pass breakup, several big plays. +++++
  • DL Dave Gathman LaSalle HS, North Wales, PA 6-3 230 -- Sometime starter on the OL? ++
  • DL Jon Harris Kellenberg HS, Inwood, NY 6-7 240 -- Impressive defensive end, backup and later starter in 1996.  Philadelphia surprised everyone, including me, by drafting him in the first round. ++++

  • DB Sam McKiver T. W. Andrews HS, High Point, NC 5-9 170 -- Mostly a backup and special teamer. +

  • OL Jeremy Raley Fort Hill HS, Cumberland, MD 6-4 250 -- Eventual starter on the OL. +++
  • DB Joe Rowe Greensville County HS, Emporia, VA 19 6-0 162 -- Became a good cornerback opposite Ronde Barber. +++
  • LB Jamie Sharper Hermitage HS, Glen Allen, VA 18 6-3 200 -- Redshirted, then teamed with James Farrior for the best LB pair in UVa history.  Occasionally played too tight, but when he went all out he was outstanding. +++++
  • QB Tim Sherman Albemarle HS, Charlottesville, VA 45 6-1 175 -- Arguably received a scholarship only because his father was on the coaching staff.  Nevertheless, was the fastest QB in UVa history and clearly deserved to be the starter in 1996.  Played a vital role in wins over Texas and UNC. ++
